Best breakfast: Lanai Beach Bar Grilled & Sushi at Legian Beach.
This is our most favorite breakfast place. We usually order the Indonesian breakfast - Nasi Goreng or Mi Goreng with papaya juice.

Great place for dinner: Jimbaran beach
We had a huge platter full of seafoods for our dinner by the beach. Great food and music as we were also serenaded by a group of Balinese musicians.

A very different resort: Waka di Ume
It’s a place where you can find peace and serenity. Usually referred to as our “Heaven on Earth” by my Ate Belle.

Fun activity for tourists: Mountain cycling
A 40km cycling tour which started at Mount Batur where we had our breakfast. It’s a perfect way to go around Ubud — appreciate the magnificent views and a chance to meet the Balinese people, spend some time with them and learn all about their unique culture. I got wounded when I fell from the bicycle but stoop up and continued the cycling journey. At the end of the tour, it was more fulfilling rather than exhausting.

Local festival: Ogoh Ogoh Festival
The locals said Ogoh Ogoh symbolizes the good and bad spirits from the previous year. We were able to witness the construction of these Ogoh Ogoh a few days before the actual parade. During the parade, these Ogoh Ogoh were carried by men including little children throughout the whole village. At the end of the day, these figures were burned, perhaps one of their rituals in driving out the evil spirits.

Kecak - Fire dance It is a Balinese ritual dance performed mostly by men and is based on the epic “Ramayana”.

Famous person to visit: Ketut Liyer
Ketut Liyer is the palm reader/medicine man from Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat. Pray, Love. We paid him a visit and we were amazed to see how many tourists lined up just to have the opportunity to meet him. He’s a very friendly and humble man. We were able to show him his photos on our camera and then he smiled and said ” I am ugly”. Such a funny old man too! :D

Nice place to hang out: Laughing Buddha Bar in Ubud Live. Jazz music and great crowd as many tourists participate and sing along with the band.

A common greeting: Suksma is Balinese for “Thank you” This is the most usual greeting that we use in Bali. The Balinese folks are one of the friendliest people I know. They are not very fluent in English but they always have a sweet smile on their faces whenever they talk to us. Balinese kids, on the other hand, are little angels who love to wave their hands and say “Hello” each time they see us. Ubud is a small village surrounded by wonderful people and I am so grateful we once lived there. :) Suksma! We’d definitely love to go back!

Personal tip: Avoid Kuta. There are not so good people there who will try to entice you to buy some souvenirs and then rip you off. Also, stay away from money changers that offer higher exchange rates than other shops as they are the ones who will certainly swindle you. True story. When in Bali, UBUD is without a doubt the best place to be! ♥
AR technology has been getting seriously powerful recently, but we still need smart little ideas like this to keep us interested. “Augmented Reality Cinema” is a concept which would spot when you’re in a famous movie location and then trigger playback of the relevant scene. Although we can’t be sure the app actually works yet, the video after the break does at least show off the idea with some memorable London clips, including the classic post-infestation Westminster Bridge scene from 28 Days Later. If the designers ever need movie fans to go around tagging cinematic locations, then obviously we’re keen to register our interest. -Sharif Sakr, Engadget
